• Splinters may result from a metallurgical defect, simple wear and tear of the tool, or improper use.
• The striking surfaces of sledgehammers and mallets have undergone heat treatment that gives them good impact resistance, but it is strictly prohibited to strike two hard striking surfaces against each other: the risk of splintering is real and serious.
• Never strike directly with a sledgehammer on the striking surface of the mallet.
